>strombooty< (for details, consult your local urban dictionary) is the modern dalessandro sound, combining heady experimentation with dance floor prowess. the eps title track is a deep, yet explosive number that creeps in subtly like dark clouds on the horizon, before raining down a devastating thunderstorm over the speakers.
the latin-flavored >el tapatio< and super-deep cut >speak to me< make up the b-side. although the tracks represent different aspects of the dalessandro sound, the commonality they share is a thoughtful approach to dance music that much of the formulaic output these days lacks.

the yore captain returns to his own yore imprint on the labels 21st release. shadow city presents different visions of funky house grooves. the a sides the y theme gets deeply moving with a funky house pulse before stoking the fire with the addition of speaking voices (trippingly intoning the q&a what are we doing this for? and the music), a move which single-handedly jumpstarts the track. after the voices appear, the grooves intensity escalates and plunges deeper, its gyroscopic house swing becoming more dizzying and torrential with each passing bar before coming to an acidy storming end. in its opening moments, shadow city opts for a deeper and more serenading vibe by comparison, but thats traded in for a slinkier attack at the three-minute mark that grows progressively more ferocious as the track makes its drastic upwards ascent. a trippin dangerous murder weapon to say the least. watch your heads! the b sides b2 track, mumbai dweller keeps the focus primarily on the bottom end, specifically a strutting tribal-house funk groove thats dragged even deeper by a throbbing bass undertow, adding dark chords to it, giving this ep a darker feeling towards the end. to sum it all up: this is raw house music at its best!

dollkraut aka pascal pinkert is back with another great ep after his previously successful release >cheveux noir< on sound architecture. once again he shows his ability to produce a unique blend of house influenced by soul and jazz. loaded with warm and analogue sounds paired with his intuition for solid vocals and sampling.
the remixes featured on this record are done by two swinging tag-teams. first of all the well known krause duo (freude am tanzen / musik krause) with an edgy sharp jacking remix. on the b-side scott (the gym / my best friend / fluid ounce) turn the downbeat track precious fool with their jazzy twist into a dancefloor anthem. outstanding record!

kornel lemon is back this time with a 2 track stormer >la leona< & >high spirits<, warm tech house affair tracks with a dub mood and a strong banging hihat beats. on side a we can find maybe one of best alex celler remix, really old school remix to the original >la leona<, big room tech/house with a disco feel including some functional chicago percussions with a warm and groovy bassline.

the title track, lost in shibuya, is perhaps our favorite track from the album. its a very evocative track, a 7 minute journey that revolves around a killer bassline, that captures the trancey techno vibe that made some of the most glorious moments of nineties techno. on the flip side, we asked one of our favorite producers to deliver a remix. his name is quarion and as part of drumpoet community, he is responsible for some of the best deep house sounds of the past years, and is one of the leaders of the neo deep house movement. quarion blessed us with a tribute to mood ii swing that is his dub infected killer usuki shinrin mix.

as the third single released in anticipation of scott hansen’s long-awaited full-length as tycho, “coastal brake” may be the best yet—a sweet slice of dream-beat that glides over the ocean surface like a high-speed waverider. “coastal brake”’s vintage synthesizers set the pointillistic scene, blipping and popping around a near-balearic rhythm like melancholy drops in a river, rising and falling and building to a shimmering climax. it’s not quite dance music—more like tycho’s soft-focus take on the escapist beauty of house music. the single’s three remixes do the original ample justice. danish producer (and syntaks collaborator) manual takes “coastal brake” at half-time and shoots it full of feedback, bringing a scorched-earth weight to the proceedings, while hatchback’s “cosmic caviar dub version” turns down the contrast and places the song in a cave full of drugged-out pianos. lusine hacks up “coastal brake” and repurposes the bits for his own stutter-stepping, downbeat funk. listen closely, and you’ll hear shards of “coastal brake” sparkling in between the beats. limited edition (1000 copies) of tychos >coastal brake< on 180 gram vinyl including alternate artwork poster. tycho is the music project of san francisco artist and producer scott hansen. as tycho, hansen blends swirling melodies into vaguely triumphant arcs that crisscross between stuttering beats and vocal samples, creating rolling sonic landscapes that extend into the horizon. known in the design world as iso50, hansen is famed for his bucolic, sun-drenched design style, which serves as a backdrop and mirror for his musical output.
